What distinguishes and makes our faculty privileged is the Applied Engineering Experience Training (UMDE), a new model based on university-industry collaboration aimed at raising qualified engineers. UMDE is a program that allows students to gain hands-on experience by working in the field during the final year of their undergraduate studies. Students who spend approximately 4 months in industry before graduation begin their careers several steps ahead of other graduates.
To be eligible for the UMDE program, students must meet the GPA requirement set by their departments and must not have any remaining failed courses from previous semesters.
The UMDE program includes the first 4 days of the week (Monday–Thursday) throughout the semester, including exam weeks. Attendance for UMDE students in the enterprise is mandatory at a rate of over 90%. Insurance coverage during the applied training is provided by SAU (Sakarya University). The evaluation of UMDE candidates is conducted by the “Advising Instructor” and the “Company Supervisor” designated by the enterprise. The success grade is determined based on reports prepared by the student during the year and the evaluations of the designated authorities.
The assignment of students to companies is managed by the Department UMDE Monitoring Commission (BUTAK). Students may also propose new companies not yet partnered with the faculty. Such proposals are only valid upon evaluation and approval by BUTAK. In company selection, priority is given to firms located within a 60 km radius from Sakarya University and located in Sakarya, Kocaeli, Düzce, and Bilecik provinces, and possessing appropriate qualifications. However, this limit may be exceeded upon a justified proposal by the student and approval by the advisor.
The UMDE program is considered equivalent to 3 technical elective courses and is worth 15 ECTS credits. To participate in the program, students must choose at least two of the courses listed below:
