The core of the faculty was formed in 1970 with the establishment of the "Sakarya Engineering and Architecture Academy" under the Ministry of National Education. The academy started its educational activities with 160 students enrolled in the Departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering. In 1971, it was renamed as "Sakarya State Engineering and Architecture Academy" by Law No. 1418. In 1977, the Industrial Engineering Department was established, followed by the opening of Electrical-Electronics and Metallurgical Engineering Departments in 1980. Starting from 1980, students were admitted to master's and doctoral programs, which were conducted in coordination with the ITU Faculty of Science Institute.
With Law No. 2547 enacted in 1982, the academy was restructured and affiliated with Istanbul Technical University under the name "Sakarya Engineering Faculty". In 1982, it continued its education as a faculty with 5 departments and 2 vocational schools.
In 1992, with the enactment of Law No. 3837, it became affiliated with the newly established "Sakarya University". The faculty currently has 8 departments (Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Electrical-Electronics, Metallurgical and Materials, Environmental, Geophysical, and Food Engineering). Evening education is also provided in departments other than Food Engineering.
Our faculty has 7 departments (Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Electrical-Electronics, Metallurgical and Materials, Environmental, and Food Engineering) whose programs have been accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MUDEK) and are internationally recognized. Accreditation is valid until 30 September 2025.
