Sakarya University achieved success in the competition, encouraging youth to develop future fuel alternatives. SAITEM (Sakarya University Advanced Technology Society), the most successful and active student communities of Sakarya University and our country, became the second in Turkey at Shell Eco Marathon, one of the most important student innovation competitions in the world, held every year in Europe, America and Asia. Under the competition, young people aged 16-25 years compete for the longest distance with least energy by designing and producing energy-saving vehicles. With creative designs and technical know-how, the teams that go the longest way with 1 kWh of energy are rewarded. SAITEM participated in the contest organized in Istanbul on 22-24 September in which 22 teams from 5 countries and more than 300 students attended, and is awarded in the category of Urban Concept Battery Electric. SAITEM President Ali Görüm, who underlined that the design and production of the car was made entirely by SAITEM members, thanked the team members, their advisors and said that their next goal is to represent the Turkish flag and the University of Sakarya as the best in Europe marathon, which will be held in London in May 2018. The team, which previously had the third place in Europe, the seventh in Europe and the ninth in the world, has students from the Mechanical, Electrical and Materials Engineering departments. Students create sub-projects under the main projects that they have carried out and work hard on R & D and P & D projects. In this way they are developing tools that can compete with world universities. In addition, entrepreneurship and innovation have become a way of life for SAITEM members thanks to the individual work carried out under the sub-projects.
